A Look Inside Mission Taco Joint's New Second Location in Soulard

On August 12 Mission Taco Joint (908 Lafayette Avenue) opened in Soulard. Located adjacent to the Soulard Farmers Market, this location of Mission fills a niche in the neighborhood and provides an alternative to the flagship restaurant in the Delmar Loop.

The West Coast-inspired concept comes from brothers Adam and Jason Tilford, who also own and operate Milagro Modern Mexican, Tortillaria and Barrister's. Since establishing its University City location in February 2013, Mission Taco Joint has been named best Mexican restaurant in the RFT's Best of St. Louis 2013, also garnering favorable reviews for its food and innovative cocktail list.

The Soulard restaurant, designed by SPACE Architects, fills a historic building with high ceilings, exposed brick and tall windows to filter in plenty of natural light. A lively mural provides a colorful backdrop for diners to enjoy Mission's full menu of mid-priced appetizers, burritos, tortas, sides and of course, tacos -- try the carne asada and wood-fire grilled cactus.

WHAAAAAAAT! Cool Soulard needed retro restaurant!

i love this place. but i didn't like sitting at the bar for 7 minutes, waiting for one of the multiple people behind the bar to ask me for my order (much less acknowledge my presence). i also didn't appreciate waiting 20 minutes for a single taco the other night.


i love this place. i'll go back. i'll be a regular shortly. but some minor constructive criticism in case anyone out there is listening. (the taco wait i understand because it was busy and it had just hit the late night happy hour, but as a former bartender i take it really seriously when i sit at a bar and none of the bartenders seem to care)
