Monte Bello Pizzeria (3662 Weber Road; 314-638-8861) is the little restaurant that could. Owner Tom Nix took over the 64-year-old family business last year, only to be thwarted by plumbing issues in June. The needed kitchen renovations were so extensive that Nix wasn't sure Monte Bello would stay open. Luckily, it opened on Thursday to a warm welcome.

Even with all of the setbacks with different contractors and inspectors, we persevered and are once again open," Nix told us via email. "We opened last Thursday and we were overwhelmed Thursday through Sunday! It was a great weekend!"

Nix wrote on Facebook that the waits have been long the past few days due to high demand, but that he and his team are working on improving that. Monte Bello is now open Tuesday through Thursday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Mmmm, Imo's inspired thin-crust. I'll try that place out during the fall.

@Marque___ That Q might start a pizza war in the office! But personally, yes. Can't speak for the other RFTers, though.

EXCUSE ME: in case you hadn't noticed when Imo;'s opened and we (Monte Bello) opened, we were here way before Imo's!

Hence, we were thin crust before Imo's!

That is why Imo's was/is not St. Louis' ORIGINAL thin crust pizza!

We also cut our pizza in squares 14 years before Imo's opened.

If anyone were to order a pizza from Imo's and one from us at the same time to compare the amount and quality of the toppings and the crust without telling either establishment that it was for comparison, we would win hands down!

We DARE TO COMPARE THE SQUARE!
