​By now, you've probably heard of Purus Vodka. The hometown booze has generated lots of buzz, including a hat tip from Wine Enthusiast, when the magazine named it a "Top Spirit" last year. We chatted with John Giarrante, president of Pure Holdings LLC, back in July, and he discussed the brand's plans for vastly expanding its distribution.

Well, now you can stop reading about Purus and experience it as it's meant to be experienced -- goin' down the ol hatch.

Purus will host a Happy Hour debut party from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. at Tucci & Fresta's (15 North Central Avenue, Clayton; 314-725-6588). "Happy" seems like a bit of an understatement, though, considering these drinks are complimentary. (Well, one free Purus vodka cocktail per customer of legal age.)

Use the free drink as an excuse to check out Tucci & Fresta's, the new Clayton trattoria and bar residing in Portabella's old space.

The Scene: Hidden in the tree-lined neighborhood streets of Shaw lies Thurman Grill & Provisions. Perhaps the reigning take-us-as-we-are establishment, at this quintessential neighborhood bar, happy hour seems to be more a state of mind than a list of specials. There are no food discounts, but when you can get a hefty basket of tots for $2.50, there's really no need. The beer and wine list is made up not of "things you need to carry" (all of InBev's offerings), but rather things the proprietors like and believe in. There's also a distinctive soul feeling to Thurman's, from the booth seats that were once part of a church, to the food display case lit like a jukebox, to the relaxed service.
