Ganging Up on the Sun

Categories: Music

*yawn* *stretch* Why, hello, STLog readers! Sorry I've been so lax in writing here; between the snowstorm last week and the sunshine this week (along with constant concert-going), I've barely had time to sleep, much less surf the Internets. To that end, consider this a sorta catch-up post, as I listen to R.E.M. and Radiohead on the office iTunes.

First and foremost, though, I suggest all of you come out to Mangia tonight to see Casey Reid play a free show. I'm not sure what time it starts, but it sure wouldn't hurt to show up early and have a few adult beverages first. I'll be there, in all of my ridiculous-outfit glory. And tomorrow night make the not-so-far trek to the Ground Floor to see People Noise and Team Tomato. (Ghost in Light is no longer on the bill, as they're taking a few months off to re-group; see its blog for more info.) Cheap Blue Moon and shoegazing music? What more could you ask for?

SXSW update: I'm so proud of our little town this year. Besides the five bands I mentioned awhile ago, both the Daybreak Boys and Gentleman Auction House are playing day parties, in hopes of getting their sound out to more people. Bravo! Even better, the bands playing official shows scored some sweet showcase slots: 7 Shot Screamers on a bill with Beasts of Bourbon and the Wildhearts, Finn's Motel playing a Boston-centric showcase with the Figgs and Jake Brennan, and Prisonshake with legendary Aussies Hoodoo Gurus at primo club Blender Bar at the Ritz. The Undertow showcase isn't too shabby either, at the breezy patio outpost Habana Calle 6. We'll have a fleet of bloggers covering the scene during the festival, so stay tuned.

I'll have more later, but I need to go do some work for the print edition of the paper now. I know, how very 1995 of me.
