Bluebird Grand Opening: Photos

• Ha ha, Joe, I used the Wolf's words myself right after the first time we were all standing around feeling proud of ourselves. As to booking, nationals are absolutely sure to follow. Even if I was naive enough to think local only bills could support the place I would be bored to tears with it- I want new shit, too, you know? We're courting a few acts right now and we had plenty of agency contacts coming into this. A lot of bands/agents aren't just going to jump into an unproven club, though, nor would I ask them to. So it will take a couple months. And there's way more work to be done, of course. A lot of the point of Thursday was to get a chance to see what needed to be done to the room, a lot of which will be accomplished within the next couple of weeks. The stage is already wider, for example, and the lights over the bar are now on a dimmer circuit, etc. Cosmetically there's all kinds of simple additions I'd like to make with time. But it's only the beginning. If we've gotten up to "wedding reception-ish sock hop" as opposed to my own initial assessment of "VFW hall" I'd say we're making progress. Thanks for coming down, by the way. It was nice to finally meet the Anus of Frustration himself, and seeing Matt Hurst's write-up the next day was encouraging.

• Weird-ass vibe, but could turn out pretty boss. Felt like a sock-hop of sortas, and while it was cool to see several diff. *cough* scenes *cough* of folks represented, wish more mingling would have occurred. I'm as much to blame; I wasn't a very good gladhanding dandy last night. Until I had some more drinks in me and sat outside CBGB mindlessly intoning, "So I says to Mabel I says..." over and over and over and rover. Curious to see what sort of PA they bring in for the bands. And I would've shaken mein booty had they been playing the Pulsars. I'm a hata, batches! James

• i wish the new venue well. the true test will be the caliber of bands that play there including touring bands. frankly booking this local shite continously will not work. hope the opening goes well but to quote the Wolf in Pulp Fiction.."Well, let's not start sucking each other's d**ks quite yet."

PS - yeah, i know the photos are REALLY blurly, which tend to happen in a dimmly lit club. I'm sure either Annie or I will link better photos when they (ahem) develop.

• I thought my drink was a little pricy until I tasted it. Man-oh-man, very strong pours. I'll wait to pass full judgement on the room til I've seen a band there. It seemed a lil' wedding reception-ish but it might just need some more breaking in. Good sight lines, loud PA. A little too loud for what was happening, really. The adjacent bar was more conversation-friendly so I spent most of my time last night in that room. Overall, no real negatives, a couple wait-n-sees. I remain cautiously optimistic...
