Gentleman Auction House Recording an Album at Silver Sonya Studios

The exuberant Gentleman Auction House -- whose debut EP, The Rules Were Handed Down, made some pretty impressive waves across the country -- will be recording its debut full-length at Silver Sonya Studios in Washington, D.C.

The septet will spend October 7 through 19 at Silver Sonya – for post-rock geeks, it’s an annex off Inner Ear Studios, which is the place where any post-rock/hardcore/pre-mall-emo band worth its salt recorded – recording ten to twelve songs with Chad Clark (Beauty Pill), T.J. Lipple (Aloha) and Devin O'Campo (Medications).

According to GAH guitarist/vocalist/percussionist/etc. Mike Tomko, Lipple and O’Campo will handle most of the tracking, with Clark mixing. The band has known the latter for awhile now, thanks to its yearly visit to the TapeOp Convention.

“We are all excited for him and his crew to help us make a record that hopefully embodies the energy that we have live with our love for experimentation in the studio,” Tomko says, adding "[Principal songwriter] Eric Enger describes the new songs as 'our radio station' and has brought a variety of bold new ideas to the table."

The next Gentleman Auction House gig in town is Thursday, August 2, at Cicero's, with the Hibernauts, Jumbling Towers and Witch's Hat (who I caught last night at Mangia -- think Tenacious D meets Franz Ferdinand, only with more straightforward indie-rock influences and tons of theatricality. Seriously, the lead singer is a dead-ringer for Jack Black.)
