No More Words

• The Evens were out of control good. I feared the worst walking into the White Flag Project and seeing that P.A. - as if Ian McKaye was so D.I.Y. now as to refuse to be beholden to the Sound Industry. After blowing too much cash on too little beer at the Pageant during Ween (why are high volume bars staffed with people who can barely fit behind the bar, much less move quickly?), I'm all about seeing some no-booze, no-bullshit shows. Some. Thankfully, the sound was great, the space was great, the crowd was good, and the music was impressive all around. A truly inspiring show.

• Re : Bert Dax Christmas - Yeah, Stella Mora have a new track, "Icicle Boy", Tape Deck Sonata, The Museum Mutters and a bunch more. Oh and I forgot to mention the LucaBrasi cd release show, post-Thanksgiving - 11/23 at The Duck Room, featuring The Feed and Ready The Cannons

• Tape Deck Sonata is at the 2 cent plain on Thursday (A show before going to Boulder, CO) and The Latest Volume of a Very Bert Dax Christmas is coming. A lot of good bands are on it.

• I second Mike's Mountain Goats love. Seeing them for free is like a dream come way too true. Billikin Club rules! My band, The Orbz, and cool kids The Metrophobics are playing on Friday with a St. Louis legend, Tory Z Starbuck at the Way Out Club - 9pm, $7 cover, 21+ The Orbz just got announced as being part of Ashborne's Charity show on December 1st at Off Broadway with Ashborne (natch), Stella Mora, Enamel and My Other Side - $10, 18+, all proceeds go to Angels' Arms Foster Home. I'm also hyped about going to see Regina Spektor next week at The Pageant. (Nov. 15th, tickets are sold out).

• The Mountain Goats are playing SLU this Saturday, of course. I'm definitely planning on going to see them. The Evens played on Monday night and were inspiring. After years of playing huge venues with Fugazi, Ian seemed to be revelling in the smaller crowds and reduced pressure. He was almost desperate to communicate, to connect - and it worked. The audience was shy at first, but by shows' end was singing along boisterously. So great to see them in St. Louis.

• While we're on the subject of 80s videos, can we not agree that Dead Or Alive's "You Spin Me..." is the worst video of all time?

• You can't type the words "German" and "music video" without me bringing in some Modern Talking. I believe the lead singer stole my Wet N' Wild Bubble Gum Lip Gloss from 1987.
