Awesome Color at Spooky Action Palace, Monday, December 10

Categories: News, This Just In

Awesome Color was one of the opening bands for Be Your Own Pet, when the Nashville kid-punks played the Creepy Crawl in 2006. Signed to Ecstatic Peace -- a.k.a. Thurston Moore's label -- the Michigan band impressed, what with its big, sludgy stoner riffs, garage-rock scuzz and classic-rock wailing (and, yes, droll vocals reminiscent of Mr. Sonic Youth). RIYL: The Stooges, Sabbath, Queens of the Stone Age.

The ear-splitting group is currently on tour with Dinosaur Jr., and while that double-bill isn't coming to St. Louis (quelle shock), Awesome Color is taking an off day in our fair town on Monday night for a gig at the underground basement hotspot Spooky Action Palace. (Want the venue's address? Fire up Google, or email spookyinfo@gmail.com.)

According to a MySpace bulletin from the Cavern, opening for the band is Colored People's Time, a new percussion duo featuring Danny McClain of Grand Ulena and Andy Lansangan of 90 Day Men. Bring yr earplugs.

Show starts at 9 p.m. and admission is $5 to $7.
