Sonic Youth, "Starpower," Live in St. Louis at Mississippi Nights with fIREHOSE, 1986

• That Youth show was one of the greatest I've ever seen. They had PA stacks set up in the back corners of the room as well as the front, and they spent a long time at sound check "tuning" the room. When they played the sound swirled and swooped everywhere, bombarding the audience with beautiful noise from every direction. It was amazing. By the way I was absolutely, totally sober and straight. • When I first moved to STL in 2001, there was a show that aired - I think - on KDHX's TV station. Wasn't the show called LeperTV? Anyway, I remember seeing the Issac show, and there was also a Los Straightjackets show (complete w/ go-go dancers).

• Jim, are there any plans to make these archives available? That Descendents show is also on YouTube, fyi. It would be great exposure for KDHX/Double Helix -- if not St. Louis -- to make a YouTube channel for some of this rare, rare footage, and put it online.

• Yes, there are multi-camera, soundboard recordings of MANY huge alt-rock bands before they made it big. All were filmed at Mississippi Nights and some of the shows included: Soul Asylum 8/31/87 Flaming Lips " " Thelonoious Monster 11/24/86 Red Hot Chili Peppers " " Yo La Tengo 3/5/88 Camper Van Beethoven 11/5/87 Sonic Youth 11/3/86 Firehose " " Ignition 6/3/87 Rollins Band " " Fishbone 11/5/86 Primitives(pre uncle tupelo)7/28/86 Mojo Nixon & Skid Roper - 9/10/86 Chris Isaak The Saints 6/26/87 Moving Targets 3/24/87 Descendents " " And there is a 10 minute interview with Mike Watt and Thurston Moore interviewing each other between sets that was moderated by Steve Pick as well that was part of the SY/Firehose broadcast.
