Film School at the Bluebird, Tonight, July 15!

Categories: MP3 Enhanced

Have you been enjoying my blathering about Sonic Youth, Swervedriver and My Bloody Valentine? (Not to mention my nostalgia for grunge?) (P.S. Don't answer that.) Then you really should head to the Bluebird tonight to see Film School, who are making its St. Louis debut. Shae Moseley's preview this week says this:

Although Film School's live lineup has featured a constantly rotating cast of members since the band formed in the late '90s, lead singer Greg Bertens' dark and wistful noise sculptures have stayed true to form. But even when channeling the shadowy introspection of Joy Division or the dense art-rock dissonance of Sonic Youth, Bertens' soundscapes always retain a certain uplifting quality, drifting perpetually upward on a cloud of woozy shoegaze bliss. Ethereal falsetto vocals and layer upon layer of impressionistic guitar manipulation provide enough ear candy to induce a trancelike effect, but intelligent arrangements and engaging melodic content keep these songs from recklessly floating away into the stratosphere.

You betcha. Locals the Bureau and Analysts open. Be there.
