New Order's Peter Hook Talks + Bonus Live Footage!

In this week's paper, I had the pleasure of talking to Peter Hook of New Order, on the occasion of the release of a DVD called Live in Glasgow. Here's a clip of "True Faith" from that DVD (another one is after the jump -- and you WANT to jump, it's a jam!) as well as some story outtakes.

"True Faith":

What’s the weirdest request you’ve ever gotten?
Some guy came up to me in Birmingham: “Have you got Jon Savage and the Bricks?’ I went, “Jon Savage and the Bricks? I’ve never heard of them.” He said, “Oh, they’re a local band, they’re just demo’ing at the moment.” I thought, “Where the fuck? Oh, fuck off.’” My other one I did, I did a gig in Norway somewhere, and when I turned up it was a hairdresser’s convention. All the old guys who run the salons were just running around after the models. All night they were coming up to me going, “You got any Justin Timberlake?” “Fuck off!” The interesting thing about DJing, every night is different. Some of them are sublime and some of them are surreal. It’s a very odd thing to do. As a second job, it’s immensely enjoyable, without a shadow of a doubt.

When are the New Order remasters coming out?
The New Order remasters are scheduled for September, October. It’s working well, actually. I’ve been very proud of the stuff that I’ve listened to remastered. It certainly sounds much better.

What have you been listening to lately?
I’m into groups basically at the moment. There’s a group called the Foals, which is wonderful, wonderful music. I saw them live, they were fucking amazing. The record didn’t actually capture that.

They reminded me of A Certain Ratio.
That’s an interesting thing, it reminds me of Gang of Four, that jerkiness. I love the Enemy. That CD is one of my favorite CDs of the year. Do you know the Courteeners?

Yes, I do.
I love the Courteeners. I’ve started digging groups again this year.
