Pitchfork: Spoon Photos

• I went back and forth between the sets. Spoon's set was pretty standard, with other songs being I Summon You, Underdog, Don't Make Me a Target, The Beast and Dragon Adored, The Ghost of You Lingers and Vittorio E. The notable stuff was Utilitarian, awesomely closing with Mountain to Sound (somebody said Bradford Cox joined them on a song and since this had two guitars I'm guessing this was it), and something I don't think I'd ever heard before in the middle. It could have been a cover, obscure b-side or a new song. It had a stomping piano and ragged vocals, sort of like them doing a Spoon song in the style of "The Pelican" by Menomena. The one lyric I sort of remember is "I write this to you in reverse."

• Cut Copy showed up? Damn.

• You went to see Spoon? Here's what you missed: an impromptu jam session with King Khan, Bradford Cox (Deerhunter/Atlas Sound), Jay Reatard, and the drummer from the Ponys on Stage B, followed by the most wildly enthusiastic crowd reception all weekend when Cut Copy finally took the stage for a short set, ending with "Hearts on Fire." Definitely one of the highlights of the festival. I'll have my review & pics up, uhm, after I get some Zzzz's.
