The Pomegranates at the Lemp Neighborhood Arts Center, Tonight!

Categories: MP3 Enhanced

In the past few months, a band called the Pomegranates has played here quite a bit, which may have made some think that it's a local group. But in reality, the quartet hails from Cincinnati, Ohio -- and seems to be on the verge of breaking out. May's full-length Everything Is Alive is full of wide-eyed, winsome dreampop that's hard to categorize (which is a good thing). Touchstones include: early Of Montreal's ragged '60s indie-pop, early Modest Mouse's lonesome freak-twang, Broken Social Scene's joyous percussion sparkles and a bunch of '80s bands of the cult (Go-Betweens) and popular (New Order) persuasion.

Here's an MP3 to sample; the band is at the Lemp Neighborhood Arts Center tonight with Bear (The Ghost), Hello My Name is Car and Hello Falco. $5, show starts at 8 p.m.
