*The afternoon (2-4 pm) strip will move more to Rock/Funk/R&B.

*The evening Blues block expands to just under three hours from 4-6:50 pm.

*Evenings (8-10 pm) is indie rock.

*Overnights are stripped vertically by genre/affinity. Monday-Punk; Tuesday-Jam & Reggae;

I was a member since 1994 but I didn't pledge this year. I've become disenchanted with KDHX. I miss my Gospel Show on Sunday morning. I miss Almo Latina, Some Velvet Morning and I hate the talk. There's just not enough Blues and Soul. When they are on, they are in poor time slots. Bulletin: Not many people listen to radio during "Prime Time". Most people listen during the drive times and at work (especially at the beginning of the work day and near the end). Let the talk radio folks listen during "Prime Time" or in the wee hours. I am a 60-year-old white male in an area were I can get all the Country music I Want. I don't want it! You have failed me.

Stewart,

Mike here from the Brain Sandwich. Thanks for the kind words.

The truth is that Jim, Jay and I are not interested in returning to KDHX under the current regime. For me, it runs a little deeper than that because of the way other long time programmers were treated like so much garbage. Also, there's the matter of a Program Committee whose members either have shows, are substitutes or have jockeyed themselves into positions to possibly get a show. It all is clearly a conflict of interest and shows a definite lack of ethics.

KDHX is no longer the wonderful place it used to be and I'm just as happy to be gone from there these days. Management is turning it into a college pop station which is a far cry from what it was designed to be. As it is now, it doesn't deserve listener support.

On the brighter side, check out brainsandwich.bravehost.com - there are a couple of podcasts posted there. So far I've done 9 podcasts and they will be available shortly. After the beginning of the new year, Jim, Jay and I will get together to explore all of our options and to do some recording for future podcasts.

As a constant listener to KDHX I am very upset that you dropped the Brain Sandwich on Sat. morning. This was downright wrong and sends the wrong message.....This team was creative and current and tapped into what St Louis is all about . PLEASE BRING THEM BACK IMMEDIATELY. SURELY THAT SLOT WILL NOT MAKE IT OR BREAK IT FOR THE STATION AND THERE IS AN ARMY OF FANS WHO MISS THE GUYS AND THERE STORIES........

The main complaints are probably coming from the people who do not even support the station and are not even members. stop the hating and give the new schedule a chance.

As a member of KDHX I am happy to see that the station is always moving forward. I will listen in as always and am looking forward to the weekend Reggae! (I am a reggae fan) GOD BLESS KDHX, the best and most diverse station in the LOU!

Ben
Ben

While I know a lot of people take advantage of the internet streams, I happen to be an old-fashioned FM listener. I agree that part of the wonder of KDHX was discovering what a great variety of music there is out there. The idea of grouping similar shows together doesn't lend itself to this "accidental" discovery of new genres. Diversity is good.

I am really sad to see what they're doing to Ska's the Limit. It is a damn shame to see Syncopation Station go; there is a part of music history that needs more exposure instead of less. We should be embracing amazing music, not sweeping it under the rug.

Aaron
Aaron

WTF is going on at KDHX?

Roy
Roy

"Syncopation Station (I have no idea where I'm going to hear music pre-1940 now)."

I do: Nothing But the Blues with Ron Edwards and No Time To Tarry Here with Pablo Meshugi, both of which feature some of the greatest pre-1940 music ever recorded.

So much for anti-old time conspiracy theories.

Suffragette City's ending has nothing to do with the programming change. Host Rene Saller had to leave the station in May for personal reasons.

Dean says:

Other great and original programs getting moved to awful time slots:- Ska's the Limit moving to Saturday night at 2:00AM (Given the popularity of ska nowadays, perhaps I should be happy it's still on at all)

Hey Dean,

After 15 years on "KDHX Ska's The Limit", I have a new project I wanted to do. ("KDHX Musical Merry-Go-Round" - Saturday mornings 8-10 am beginning August 16 - you'll be hearing a lot more about it in coming weeks)

When a new schedule was in discussion, we seized the opportunity to launch the new Saturday morning show.

Though I was ready to go, the program committee wasn't ready to be done with "Ska's The Limit" and wanted it to be part of a block of reggae-related shows.

Station found a new host for S.T.L.,J.J. Loy,who I'm confident will bring a new approach and enthusiasm to the show.

As far as time of day... I've found that in recent years, most of my KDHX listening is done on my computer at time of my choice. There's a lot of shows I listen to when I want to hear them, not when they're originally aired. Ska's The Limit will now be one of those that I will listen to while at work in the daytime.

Dean
Dean

I'm sure the "hippie shit" refers to what I dub the "Friday and Saturday night reggae crap-fest" which I suppose satisfies the elusive teenage stoner demographic. It's just a shame that they eat up such a meaty part of the schedule. Unfortunately, it looks like the schedule changes will only minimally affect those programs. (In case you can't tell, not a huge reggae fan).

Jafo agrees with Dean
Jafo agrees with Dean

One of the things I've always enjoyed about KDHX is the fact that at any given time I can be exposed to a plethora of genres I wouldn't normally listen to. I've discovered a lot of great music by chance.

Ska's the Limit used to be a lot better show, they used to play a better mix of new and old bands, and there used to be more DJs involved, keeping things a lot more light and fun, so the fact that it still exists is somewhat surprising.

I'm really going to miss S-City and E of V. I've heard they opted out because of the change in times, not a cancellation by the station.

It will take a while to get used to the new schedule, but I'm sure once I know where all my shows have landed, it'll be the same quality programming.

I'll still give them my ears and money.

PS-what constitutes "fucked up hippie shit"?

Robin
Robin

KDHX Blows! everytime i turn it on there is some fucked up hippie shit playing.

Dean
Dean

Forgot to post this previously, but my biggest complaint is that KDHX seems to be forsaking its originality and diversity in the name of genre commonality across time slots. As much as I like independent music, I cringe when I read a statement like "Evenings (8-10 pm) is indie rock". Such homogenization of programming is not in KDHX's best interest.

I'd also like to know how many of these programs will be returning to KDHX2, which I've heard very little about so far. I agree with the slimming down of Democracy Now, although I'm sure a lot of hard-core listeners will be disappointed. In all, the remaining DJ's have big shoes to fill, and I hope they can all continue to bring the originality that has made me a devoted listener.

Dean
Dean

Notable programs leaving:- St. Louis Brain Sandwich (the only live radio comedy show that I know of in St. Louis)- Syncopation Station (I have no idea where I'm going to hear music pre-1940 now).- Radio Time Capsule (Is KDHX intentionally throwing out the two most quality old-timey radio shows in St. Louis?)- When The Levee Breaks- Suffragette City (wtf, seriously)- Etiquette of Violence

Other great and original programs getting moved to awful time slots:- Ska's the Limit moving to Saturday night at 2:00AM (Given the popularity of ska nowadays, perhaps I should be happy it's still on at all)- Lotsa A Capella moving to the deadly 6:00AM Saturday morning slot.- Some Velvet Morning getting bumped up an hour to 5AM.

I'd like to know if the programs leaving opted out on their own or were forced out due to poor ratings/fundraising.
