Show Review: Tef Poe at Vintage Vinyl, Monday, October 27

The Delmar Loop was a virtual ghost town last night -- not because Halloween is coming up this week, but because it was officially too cold to hang around outside. Nevertheless, Teflahn Poetix managed to draw in a small audience as he promoted his new mixtape, Glory 2 God, at Vintage Vinyl.

The modestly sized crowd was largely made up of local producers and recording artists, giving the event an industry-night kind of vibe. DJ Spec worked the turntables while Tef performed, occasionally enlisting fellow emcees in attendance to take the stage.

Illspitta Sickflow, Family Affair, Gotta be Karim, and Wicked (Tef’s older brother) performed one song each, while Black Spade was unable to make it in from Los Angeles. Rockwell Knuckles was also absent from the line-up.

The set was short and sweet; lasting just over an hour, but the song selection provided a good representation of the former Soul Tyde standout’s metaphorical style. The most energetic songs of the evening were Tef Poe’s “Crazy World” and Family Affair's “Senseless,” but the highlight was when Tef closed out with two a capella verses – both thoughtful and introspective.

Glory 2 God is available at Vintage Vinyl, and is intended to hold fans over until the release of his upcoming album, Age of Illumination.
