Totally Bogus: Missing Persons and Tommy Tutone Cancel VooDoo Lounge Show
Tommy Tutone makes no effort to hide what keeps the band immortal: The intro on its official website is an audio/video montage featuring the ringing pop hit "Jenny (867-5309)." But the act is more than just a one-hit wonder, even though lead vocalist Tommy Heath is the only permanent member of the group. Three early '80s albums also spawned the top 40 tune "Angel Say No," and in recent years Heath and a revolving band of pals respectably performed Blink 182's "All the Small Things" on the TV show Hit Me Baby One More Time. Missing Persons -- which now amounts to chipmunk-voiced Dale Bozzio and a backing band -- also appeared on the show covering Kylie Minogue. Unsurprisingly, Bozzio's effortless sexuality and her renditions of the neon-lit new-wave tunes "Words," "Walking in L.A." and the underrated "Mental Hopscotch" continue to cement the band's appeal.
