St. Louis Non-Smoking Bars/Clubs/Venues: What Are They?

• Studies from the '50s show that smoking is important for leading a healthy life. It exercises the lungs, promotes good circulation, relieves stress, and increases workplace productivity 83%.

• I've been to a place on Morgan Ford that is non-smoking called Amsterdam Tavern, Good vibe some bands and a great beer selection.

• The Wedge will book non-smoking shows at the request of the bands playing that particular night.

• At least two studies in the 80's have shown that even when someone smokes out side of their home, car,or work place, that they will still "contaminate" areas they enter AFTER putting out the cigarette. This is especially significant in a home or car or work place in which non-smokers live or ride OR work! After about six months, the smoker's home, car, or work place has the same level of smoke-related contamination as in the smoker's home or car itself! Why? Because of the exhalation from the smoker's lungs. We all breath in and out, but as the smoker breathes out, the smoke related products "exhaust" from the lungs out into the environment. There are NO safe enclosed areas after a smoker has been smoking there!

• There's a new pub/tavern on the Morganford strip called Amsterdam Tavern. They occasionally have live music, but it's mostly a soccer/ neighborhood bar with a great selection of beer. They have a cool beer garden out back for smokers.

• Newstead Tower Public House is non-smoking and features NOT-pop-culture-oriented Trivia on Tuesday Nights, as well as awesome and healthy food (and $10 buckets o' Stag or $4 24oz-cans of Busch). Atomic Cowboy, also non-smoking (don't even get me started on the Stag deals there). I understand that the Blues City Deli is non-smoking, and recall (I hope correctly) that the Gramophone and the Focal Point (Maplewood) are, too, but it's been awhile since I was at either, so forgive any misinformation.
