Congrats to the Radical Sons, which is releasing its new EP, Throwing Knives, on the Secretly Canadian vinyl-only imprint St. Ives in May. The polarizing local band's new release was produced by Patrick Crecelius (Fred Friction); its next local show is opening for Pretty & Nice at the Firebird on Friday, April 17.
Come on Harnish, like you're the only hater in St. Louis? You should know I wouldn't put you on the spot like that.
Congrats! Sincerely, congrats! Never talked shit on the music or the band itself, just the whole cart-before-horse idea of paying publicists & flying "label reps" in for shows at the Red Sea, but what the Hell do I know? I'm just some poor schlub in a S. Grand band, not hungry enough to make it. Again, congrats to the kiddos. Remember the little guys, huh?
Cheers!
Matt Harnish
ps-sorry, Mike & Eugene, I'm just not in a shit-talking mood these days. It'll be back, fear not.
pss-I miss Joe Payne.
I guess I've been out of the loop for a while. How long have these guys been around?
Off to the Firebird for a show, I reckon.
In regards to "mum and dad paying" and all that: more power to 'em. Honestly. With the music game in chaos these days (evidenced by small indies like Touch & Go not singing new artists) ... Any advantage is a plus and I don't blame them for taking it.
Hell, I would, wouldn't you?
Can't wait to hear the counter-arguments, it'll be a laff riot all over again.
Sniff sniff...I'm so proud of these boys. Goes to show you that a local band can break out of the St. Louis slump. Plus the guys are nice as hell.
right on. Radical Sons are bringing rock n roll to the peoples. Looking forward to that show in April.
Kinda cool that these kids were able to get a respected label to put out their first EP. Especially when most all the other local indie bands (except for so many dynamos) had to self release their own early stuff/ never got a real label on board (berlin whale, Jumbling towers, say panther, the hibernauts, The Bureau ect...). Also funny how in your last post on Radical Sons (which you linked), Matt Harnish from bunnygrunt was talking shit on them. I feel like there are a lot more bands out there that are deserving to get shit on who don't work with cool labels, put out vinyl records, and open for good national bands. I'd take a young band that cites the velvets over a young band that cites Fall Out Boy any day. Could Bunnygrunt be nervous that a new band will take it's RFT Best Indie Band Award this year?
rad shit!! local scene is blowin back up. cant wait to see these guys in action. That guitarist knows how to wail. Props to the sons.
Jake
