R.I.P. Michael Jackson, 1958-2009

• So, what do you think about Michael Jackson's death? I believe (and I may be wrong) that he had WAY too many procedures done to himself, and that he never kicked the pain medication habit. I remember when Elvis died (Aug 16, 1977) before he was scheduled to appear in Portland,Maine. He was one of the superstars I grew up with. But he was born 29 years before me. MJ on the other hand, was just a tad bit younger than I was. I loved the early Jackson 5. I loved the competition between him and Donny Osmond...basically, I loved the idea that someone so young could be so good...and get so rich. They really paved the way for future artists. While Donny turned out "ok", Michael took a very twisted and dark turn somewhere, which kind of added to his mystique, and propelled him into the limelight even more. What's the saying? "There's no such thing as bad press"? But then things started getting REALLY weird. He wasn't the cute black kid anymore. He got a Kirk Douglass chin. And where in the heck did the nose come from? There were even reports that it was a prosthetic nose...and had once fallen off during an interview! Elvis (or Donny, for that matter) would have never allowed their nose to fall off! And all the stories about him molesting children. I don't think the stories are true. I believe he thoroughly enjoyed giving shelter and comfort to kids. But his celebrity (and un-orthodox) mannerisms did nothing but sensationalize the lawsuits brought against him by the parents of the children. Parents who said they knew and trusted him. I did 2 years probation for assault )that "you cannot defend yourself against a lie". I thought she was crazy. Until I got 2 years probation for something I didn't do. We all know what Michael Jackson has done. He set the music world on its ear. He bought the Beatle catalogue. He DID NOT invent the "Moon Walk"...I think that belongs to the Ink Spots. He thrilled audiences world wide. He lived a crazy life...who wouldn't when you had as much money as God? And he got slammed whenever he opened up to us, the media and the parasites. I was never a real fan of Michael Jackson. I am more of the Pink Floyd/Queen/Yes/Eric Clapton/Beatles/...and dare I say it, Freda Payne/Smokey Robinson group. Diversity counts here! Those of us who grew up on Mr. Ed, My Mother The Car, Rat Patrol, The Governor and JJ/Ted Mack's Amature Hour/The Mitch Miller Show/Ed Sullivan/I Love Lucy/Leave it to Beaver and Captain Kangaroo all share in the memories of the Jackson 5 and "Little Michael". God rest his tortured soul.

• Children the world over, just breathed a collective sigh of relief...the loudest of which came from his own 3 children. What a d-bag. Good riddance. If there is a hell, he should burn in it.

• A true legend never really dies. The music goes on forever. Who wants to put on Thriller and have a good cry? God knows I do. He was 11 when he first started getting popular with The Jackson 5. 39 years in the public eye and he survived it with grace. Haters, you don't deserve to lick the boots of the all-singing, all-dancing powerhouse that is/was Michael.

• As A 52YEAR OLD LADY, I HAD THE PRIVILEGE TO GO TO HIS PEPSI TAPING. I was in awe then. He will always be an icon to me. I pray that his image will never be tarnished by his legal troubles. That he will be remembered for his humanitarian gifts, his love for his fellow man and most importantly his music. God bless his family always.Peace and love to you Micheal rest in peace.
