Two weeks after uncategorizable rockers Brand New release their highly anticipated album, Daisy, the band will be performing at the Pageant. Manchester Orchestra -- which has been receiving plenty of love from the Point -- is opening. Tickets are on sale Monday, August 10, at 1 p.m. and are $25 in advance.
as good as manchester orchestra's new album is.. their first album "like a virgin losing a child" is just as good...

I think that while YFW was great at the time of it's release, the music they've put out since then is by far superior. And it took me a couple years--but I finally fell in love with The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me. I hope the new album builds off that direction.
What's strange is that I cannot stand most of the bands they tour with or are associated with (Taking Back Sunday, Thrice, etc., although I've never heard Manchester Orchestra) but usually when a Brand New album finds its way in my CD player, it stays there for a couple weeks.
This and Built to Spill (maybe even Dinosaur Jr.) are some of the best shows coming to the Pageant this fall.
Regardless of the Point overplaying them, Manchester has one of the most emotional hard hitting albums since Weezer's Pinkerton with it's newest album. This one will sell out fast.
P.S. I thought Brand New's encore was great in 07. I prefer them to move forward and not play anything from Weapon ever again.
true, the encore was annoying.. but i enjoyed brand new's show at the pageant last year...
altho i was about the oldest person there, at the tender age of the 30...
but brand new is a great band.. with an absolute ton of energy, their last two albums have been phenomenal (it didnt bother me a bit to not hear anything for YFW), and i would be surprised if "daisy" isnt even better..
also, manchester orchestra is also great band, and they can rock out a bit in concert.. this is the best show of the season at the pageant IMO..
I was similarly disappointed by the last time Brand New was here (especially, as you mention, the droning, uninteresting, unending "encore") when they were with Thrice & mewithoutyou. Which is why I was referring to the last time both Brand New and Manchester Orchestra were here (hence "last time they joined forces"), which was back on November 1 of 2006 at MN.
jesse lacey also did a solo show at off broadway on august 8, 2007. says our blog archives.
brand new's show was october 21 of that same year.

no, the last time they played St. Louis was a year and a half ago at the Pageant. They played zero songs from Your Favorite Weapon. It was unemotional, uninspired, and boring. Their encore was an instrumental song in 4/4 and anyone who can make the E chord and count to 4 could have played it.
The last time they joined forces in St. Louis (at Mississippi Nights, if memory serves), it was incredible. Not sure we'll get Seventy Times 7 as a second encore this time though...
