Hear a New Wooden Kites Song, Info on Lost Album

Categories: MP3 Enhanced, News

Just before the RFT music showcase in June, the Wooden Kites broke up. However, the band left behind demos for an album it was planning to record later this summer. (Side note: The 'Kites had planned on going to Jay Bennett's Pieholden Studios in Champaign for the recording process - and several weeks after the band started talking to them, Bennett passed away.)

Tentatively titled Some Day/Some Nights, the album was mostly recorded with Peter Dycus at Shine Studio -- save for one Jason Hutto-recorded tune that was meant for a Quief Quota split seven-inch that never materialized due to money issues.

Below is that song, which features violin from Rats & People's Brien Seyle. It's also a favorite of Wooden Kites pianist/keyboardist/vocalist Chris Schott: "I particularly like this song because it was Dave Todd's arrangement," he says. "[Todd] even plays the banjo on it."

If anyone wants to hear the rest of the demos, Schott says people can email him - although he gives this caveat.

"Because these are 'demos,' it makes sense to point out that the songs were (mostly) recorded live and minor mistakes were not edited out or taken seriously," he says via email. "Therefore, there are numerous mistakes throughout -- mainly because these recordings were originally meant for the band's ears only and they were mainly for demo purposes -- something we could take home and mull over before we 'did it for real.' So the songs here presented are truly warts and all."
