The RFT Is Hiring!

Categories: News

Tucked into this week's letters section was the following job listing: Hey, we're hiring a clubs editor!

Riverfront Times seeks a new Clubs Editor to compile St. Louis' comprehensive weekly music listings, maintain and grow our nightclub database and write blurbs for recommended music events. Must be interested in covering the local music scene, from rock and hip-hop to dance, lounge, country and more. Only the detail-oriented and computer savvy need apply. The position is part time, 25-30 hours per week and involves a significant writing component. Send cover letter, résumé and writing samples to Music Editor Annie Zaleski: annie.zaleski@riverfronttimes.com. No phone calls, please.

I just wanted to elaborate on this ad a bit below here...

1. You can also send in your application via snail mail. The address is: Riverfront Times, Attn: Annie Zaleski. 6358 Delmar Boulevard, Suite 200. St. Louis, MO 63130. But yeah -- no phone calls. If you did send via mail, you can email me to see if I received your materials, however.

2. Don't be alarmed if you don't hear from me right away. I'm slammed with early holiday deadlines, and I'll be on vacation for the latter bit of December. And we're planning to have the ad open into the new year. In short, I'm going to start looking at things seriously in January, with the aim of hiring someone by early February.

3. We're definitely looking for someone interested in going out and reporting, i.e., someone to contribute to this blog. Concert reviews, local music news tidbits, local clubs goings-on (openings, closings, etc.), interviews and other miscellaneous blog posts are all fair game. The job mainly involves maintaining and adding to the RFT's clubs/event listings and information database, yes, but there are opportunities to hone your reporting and source-building chops in the local music and club communities. In fact, we'd love to find someone raring to get to know the characters and denizens of the Lou -- and help out with local music community reporting.

4. Contributing to the print edition of the RFT is also an option in this position.

5. You have to live in St. Louis to do the job. Commuting is not an option.

6. Don't be intimidated or scared by the job or this blog post! For starters, you'll be working with me, and I'm a pretty easygoing, informal person. Second, there's a lot of room within the job to grow and learn.

Any other questions, feel free to chime in below or email me, and I'll try to answer them.
