On Saturday, December 19, Vintage Vinyl will be hosting another book signing with John Neiman, the author of In Concert: KSHE and 40+ Years of Rock in St. Louis. (I wrote about this a few weeks ago.) Neiman will be reading from the book and answering questions starting at 1 p.m. at the Halo Bar. According to Vintage Vinyl's website, he won't be the only one there:
Other speakers scheduled to attend include Ron Stevens (KSHE DJ 1971-77), Joy Grdnic (KSHE DJ 1975-77), Ron Elz (KSHE Program Director 1967-68), Gary Bennett (KSHE DJ & Engineer 1968-2002), Gary Kolander (KSHE DJ 1976-84), Bill Greenblatt (KSHE DJ, Photographer from 1972-1974), David Grafman (Shelley Grafman's son, DJ and Promotions) and Toby Weiss (In Concert: KSHE... editor) and others still to be confirmed.
The book's amazing photos certainly tell a large portion of the station's story. But of course, the real question is: For those of us who weren't there, what did KSHE sound like back then? Neiman was kind enough to send me some audio clips, which I've uploaded below. They include ads for long-gone St. Louis appliance stores, wig stores(!) and head shops; a story about nudists dealing with voyeurs; clips for movies premiering here; nods to Journey, Foghat and the Who and much more. Take a listen below. The clips take a bit to load, so be patient if they don't show up right away.

MP3: "An ad for the movie Blue, starring Terence Stamp and Ricardo Montalban"

MP3: "An ad for Together, the steamy movie with future adult star Marilyn Chambers/An ad for putt-putt golf"

MP3: "A Ted Nuget/Amboy Dukes back-announce, paired with miscellaneous ads"

MP3: "An ad for a wig and wiglet, going right into a Martha Reeves announce"

MP3: "Big Jack Tontoni tailor"
