Freedy Johnston, Patty Griffin Coming to St. Louis
Late Tuesday, singer-songwriter Freedy Johnston confirmed a St. Louis show at Off Broadway on Thursday, February 11. Tickets are $10 for those over 21, $13 for anyone under, and the show starts at 9 p.m. Johnston hasn't played here in quite a long time, I believe, but he has good reason to play here now: Rain On the City, his newest album and first in eight years. A songwriting clinic, City is moody, optimistic and pensive in all the right places, with enough brisk acoustic guitars, plaintive melodies and the occasional jazzy horn to keep away monotony. ![]()

Patty Griffin's St. Louis show has neither a venue nor a date yet, but her official website notes that our fair city is a stop on a tour being routed in support of her new album, Downtown Church. All shows are with roots-country artist Buddy Miller. We'll update this with info, when it's known.
