R.I.P. Author J.D. Salinger

Author J.D. Salinger, the patron saint to misunderstood teens and clever troublemakers everywhere, died in New Hampshire. He was 91. Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye is an adolescent reading-list staple, thanks to its casual (but incisive) dialog and the smart-aleck nature of the protagonist, Holden Caulfield. He's the kid we all wished we could have been -- shrugging off consequences with x.

Salinger's influence on well-read musicians is quite strong; after all, his kind of quirky and lovably dysfunctional characters are the foundation of good story-songs. Heck, the Lookout! Records punk band the Wynona Riders even named an album J.D. Salinger. Video of them below.
