R.I.P. Soul Legend Teddy Pendergrass, Dannie Flesher of Wax Trax Records

Late last night, soul legend Teddy Pendergrass died after a battle with colon cancer. He was 59. Christian Schaeffer's "Hump Day Slow Jam of the Week" on Pendergrass' group, Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes (which was eerily published one year ago today), detailed the influence and nuance of his talents.

Earlier in the day, Dannie Flesher -- the co-founder of the Wax Trax record store and associated record label -- died in Arkansas of pneumonia. He was 58. Wax Trax's industrial-leaning acts (including Ministry, My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult and KMFDM) were quite popular in St. Louis during their heyday -- and to this day, few bands have ever recreated the distinctive Wax Trax aesthetic.
