R.I.P. Alex Chilton, Box Tops and Big Star Legend, 1950-2010

Categories: SXSW, This Just In

Alex Chilton, the singer/guitarist known for his work with ragged rockers Box Tops and power-pop legends Big Star, died today in New Orleans. He was 59. According to the Memphis Commercial Appeal, it's believed Chilton died of a heart attack. His death comes three days before Big Star was scheduled to play SXSW, in honor of last year's excellent Rhino Records 4xCD boxed set, Keep An Eye on the Sky. Really, there are no words.
