The young, new local quartet The Great Outdoors -- formerly known as Leaking Africa -- is releasing its first EP, Board Up Our Homes, this weekend with a show at the Firebird. Homes is an interesting first release: The songs unfurl themselves in slow motion, driven by piano with faint jazz fingerprints, downtrodden guitar and the occasional burst of noise. "To My Archives," the song streaming below, is majestic and British; it's reminiscent of Elbow's well-manicured orchestration, although other songs resemble the soul-folk of Jeff Buckley, the celestial sprawl of Explosions in the Sky or a post-rock version of Manchester Orchestra. The show on Saturday is $8, starts at 8 p.m. and also features Parlor Knights, Making Movies and Sing Me A Fiction.
