The late Jay Bennett
When Jay Bennett passed away last May, he had almost finished a new album, Kicking at the Perfumed Air. So this music didn't languish in obscurity, Bennett's friend/collaborator (and ex-St. Louisan) Edward Burch helped finish Air, and is doing a mini-tour of Midwest record stores to promote the release. This trek will bring him to Euclid Records on Sunday, July 11, at 3 p.m. In a press release emailed by Euclid, Burch was quoted as saying that Air "represents, if not the album Jay had intended to share, most certainly an album of which he would be proud." The free performance will also feature Bottle Rockets guitarist John Horton, who's also played with Bennett. Air is available for a free download at jaybennett.org, which is also the location of the newly formed Jay Bennett Foundation. This organization supports music and education. Undertow Music will also soon have physical copies of Bennett's solo CDs.
