On October 2 in Lawrence, Kansas, the Scion Garage Fest has lured the genre's big names to the Midwest; to name a few, King Khan & the Shrines, Best Coast, the Oblivians, the Raveonettes, the Gories and the Clean. But St. Louis is getting its own garage/soul festival on November 5 and 6 at Off Broadway. Called Beat 'N' Soul, the two-day event so far features the Fleshtones, Charles Walker and the Dynamites, the Bo-Keys, the Sights, JC Brooks and the Uptown Sound, the Beatdowns, the Nevermores and Mondo Topless. Says the event's site, which just went live:

What did the Everly Brothers know in 1965, when they named their album Beat and Soul? They knew that both the new beat music and rhythm and blues emerged from the same primordial ooze...and they knew that they wanted to keep your heart pumping and your feet dancing.
That's the inspiration for Beat 'n' Soul...a showcase of modern garage rock and soul music and every kind of intersection of the two.

Ticket details are TBA.
