So, What's the Deal with these Best Coast Tickets? [Update]

• I've never been there before. What's wrong with the Gargoyle?

• Looks like the show is a go, just bought my tickets. Unfortunately it is still at the Gargoyle, sigh....

• Rumor has it there aren't any tickets left for the public as the students bought them all.

• I wouldn't doubt this is something that Wash U is fucking up, after the ticket fiasco of Portugal. The Man & Yeasayer earlier this year...I really hope they don't screw this up as a whole I'm with everyone else at getting this show at a not shitty venue.

• I really doubt this is anything big. My feeling is that the students who run the venue simply haven't communicated with the box office yet.

• where can one find these public financial records, btw?

• @mike: It's very unusual, actually. Contracts are signed well in advance and if a band blows up (or tanks) between the time the deal is struck and the show date that's just part of the business. Beyond that, given who their agent/agency is and considering the Gargoyle is the one doing the buying I would think Best Coast is getting a pretty hefty sum already. I'm guessing there's more to this story.

• i am ignorant to the ins and outs of concert booking. is it common for acts to renegotiate contracts in this way after the venue has been booked? or do they sign a contract in advance and that's the rate?

• based on financial records (which are public, by the way), it looks like they're either in the process of renegotiating, or they made a pretty low initial offer. if the latter is true, then it's also possible that they're renegotiating the guarantee.

• You have to wonder if Best Coast is trying to leverage their recent attention/success to get a better deal. At any rate, you punks running the Gargoyle better not blow this...worst case, maybe they'll reschedule at a less shitty venue?
