Shut out of the Avett Brothers show? Not a Kings of Leon fan? Don't worry: There's plenty of other things to do this weekend -- aside from Financial Aid at 2720 Cherokee and the Blues City Deli Streetfest, of course.

Friday:
Alex Chilton Tribute @ Off Broadway
Christian Schaeffer interviewed long-time bass fixture Steve Scariano, one of the city's biggest Alex Chilton fans, about the artist and his legacy. See Scariano play in three separate groups during this tribute night. Also on the bill: Edward Burch, the Boorays, Jimmy Griffin, Beth Bombara + the Robotic Foundation and Wormwood Scrubs -- to name a few. 8 p.m. 21-plus: $10. Under 21: $13.

Innerpartysystem/Midnight Conspiracy DJ sets @ Sol
Propaganda tonight upstairs draws DJ sets from glitchy industro-electronic trio Innerpartysystem and Chicago's Midnight Conspiracy. Innerpartysystem's "American Trash" is the missing link between The Downward Spiral and Simian Mobile Disco. 9 p.m. (Sultan and Ned Shepard, with an opening set by Rob Lemon, are in the main room at Sol.)

The Takedown (CD release) @ Old Rock House
Escape Plan, the new CD from local quartet the Takedown, is a slick, earnest collection of modern rock/pop confections. (Think Alkaline Trio's clean-cut, non-gothy little brother.) Celebrate Plan's release at the Old Rock House. Peach and Minutes to Midnight are also playing. 8 p.m. $7. 21-plus only.

Saturday:
Homegrown @ 2501 Jefferson
The masterminds behind Panoptic Productions are behind this multi-artist event at a "virgin venue" on Jefferson. DJ Mahf, Cypher, Jim K, JetSet, Miss J and more (full lineup here) will spin everything from dubstep and tech-trance to progressive and funk. Live artists and other spectacle completes this late-late-night event. 9 p.m. $15. 18-plus.

Grovefest
Starting at 4 p.m., the annual music/art/merchandise/entertainment hootenanny takes over the Grove district on Manchester between Sarah and Kentucky. The free event goes until 11 p.m. All of the nitty-gritty specifics can be found right here.

Chippewa Chapel Band Scramble @ Off Broadway
Local musicians reconfigure themselves into new bands -- hence the "scramble" -- and try to write and perform sterling new tunes. The show benefits music camp scholarships for SCOSAG, so your attendance even contributes to a good cause.
