Ten Things to Do This Weekend: October 8-10

While our music page has plenty of things to do this weekend, a quick note: The fun./Steel Train/Jarrod Gorbel show at the Firebird is sold out. Hope you bought tickets! Now on to some other options:

All weekend:
*Soulard Oktoberfest
Drink. Listen to Brave Combo, Copper Box and Soulard Blues Band. (Find out when they're playing right here.) Drink some more. Pass out. Wake up. Start drinking again. $5.

Friday:
forgetters @ Cicero's
Hold yourself back from going all Chris Farley Show on Blake Schwarzenbach -- "So, like, remember when you were in Jawbreaker? That was awesome." -- and instead enjoy the surge-punk of his new trio, forgetters. The Blind Eyes and 97-Shiki open. 8:30 p.m. $8 to $10.

Pokey LaFarge @ Off Broadway
The old-tyme troubadour and his merry band of men take time out from their globetrotting for a headline show. The Hot Seats and the Two Man Gentleman Band round out the bill. 8 p.m. $10 21-plus, $13 under 21.

*Groovethang at the Kemp Auto Museum
This benefit for local nonprofit Friends of Kids with Cancer features two iterations of Groovethang -- its Steely Dan tribute and later, a set of American Top 40 from the '70s. Free appetizers abound as well. 6:30 p.m. $35.

Saturday:
*Matt Harnish's 40th Birthday Bash @ Blueberry Hill's Duck Room
First, the bad news: Apples in Stereo side project Thee American Revolution had to cancel due to a prior engagement. But Harnish's own Bunnygrunt, along with touring popsters Poison Control Center and local yokels Warm Jets, will still be on hand to celebrate the passage of time. 9 p.m. 21-plus. $5.

*Pepperland: a Beatles Review, Celebrating Seven Decades of John Lennon @ Old Rock House
Celebrations of John Lennon's 70th birthday are in full swing. Continue the party with a night of songs from the Beatles. 9 p.m. $7. 21-plus.

*Unicycle Loves You @ Lemmons
This dreamy Chicago trio will please fans of Metric and Ivy -- and even the younger set: The band's hooking up with Yo Gabba Gabba! for some dates in the coming weeks. Huzzah! 8 p.m.

*The Toasters @ The Firebird
Ska never goes out of style -- just ask the Toasters, the third-wave ska act who's been a band for nearly 30 years. The Architects and Samuriot are also playing. 8 p.m. $12 to $14.

*London Calling w/Class Actress @ The Gramophone
Class Actress (a.k.a. Elizabeth Harper) has toured with the XX and Little Boots; her own brand of batcave-electro is seductive, danceable and Siouxsie-Sioux-like in all the right ways. 9 p.m. 21-plus. $4 Before 10 p.m., $8 after.

Sunday:
*Los Meesfits @ Lemmons, Atomic Cowboy
This Misfits tribute from Athens, Georgia -- seriously, they sing Misfits songs in Spanish, set to a salsa/punk beat -- will be doing two shows: A 2:30 p.m. punk-rock matinee at Lemmons with BassAmp & Dan-O, Gozerians & the Mondales, and then later that night at Atomic Cowboy during the weekly Sunday night spin.
