Six Things To Do This Weekend, If You Don't Care About Halloween

So, perhaps you're someone who hates Halloween. No shame -- dressing up isn't really A to Z's bag, either, and we understand that it's hard to find costume-free events this weekend. And so below, here are some non-holiday happenings this weekend to enjoy:

Friday:
Summer Osborne/Shannon Curtis Happy Hour Show @ The Gramophone
Summer Osborne, a finalist in last summer's local Lilith Fair OurStage performing contest, is planning to sign a record deal with a New Jersey-based company; she'll also be heading to City Lights Recording Studio to make a new album soon. Shannon Curtis, a singer-songwriter from LA, is also on the bill. 6 p.m. $5 in advance, $7 at the door. 18+ Venue event.

St. Louis Secret Sound Festival Kick-Off Show @ Off Broadway
Local and national bands of all shapes and sizes will be performing Saturday all over Cherokee Street, as part of the St. Louis Secret Sound Festival. On Friday, kick the inaugural fest off right with a dynamic triple bill at Off Broadway. Percussive-heavy Ad Astra Aspera side project Ad Astra Arkestra!, freak-folks Jookabox and our own So Many Dynamos are on the bill. 9 p.m. 21-plus: $10. Under 21: $13

Saturday:
Fundraiser for Oliver Sain School & Museum @ BB's Jazz, Blues & Soups
Plans are in the works to renovate the Archway Studios building on Natural Bridge Road, which is where the late saxophonist Oliver Sain recorded. The goal is to convert the space into a non-profit music school and museum. To help raise money toward this goal, BB's is hosting a fundraiser this Saturday night starting at 6 p.m. Featured performers include (but aren't limited to) Billy Barnett, Silky Sol, Alexandria Sharp Johnson, Steve Waldman, and Renee Smith and the Oliver Sain Revue Band. Tickets are $15 for individuals, $25 per couple.

Beat Street @ Vintage Vinyl
Winter is fast approaching -- which means that this Saturday's Beat Street DJ spin under the Vintage Vinyl marquee will be the last one of the season. Swing by one last time to hear the city's best DJs spin and scratch hip-hop, soul, funk and everything in between. 2 p.m. Free.

Brighton, MA @ Blueberry Hill's Duck Room
Red Bull is sponsoring a TV show called "Rock the Route," which will follow two bands on the road as they travel to L.A. via Route 66. One of these bands -- the shambling, barnstorming rockers Brighton, MA -- will be at the Duck Room as part of the filming process. 8 p.m. Free.

Cory Chisel & the Wandering Sons @ The Firebird
Says Katie Moulton;s preview: "With his band the Wandering Sons, the Appleton, Wisconsin-based musician Cory Chisel plays a dark mixture of soul and folk. Even on the innocuously titled "Angel of Mine," swampy bass and unhinged skittering organ cast a black spell over what might have been a simpler honky-tonk tune." 9 p.m. $10 to $12.
