Ride the Rails -- MetroLink, That Is -- With Pokey LaFarge and Rough Shop
This holiday season, MetroLink is running a train dubbed the Holiday Magic Express. This train is decorated with garland, lights, ornaments and other appropriately seasonal baubles. To increase the cheer even more, Metro has partnered with KDHX to create Rhythm 'n' Rails. Two Saturdays in a row, the Magic Express will feature acoustic music from local acts. The first event takes place with Rough Shop this Saturday, December 11, on a Red Line train which departs the Fairview Heights, Illinois, station at 1:21 p.m. and heads west to Lambert Airport. Music continues until 3:22 p.m. (The train turns around and heads eastbound after it reaches he airport.) Pokey LaFarge and the South City Three takes over the Blue Line the following Saturday, December 18. That train leaves Fairview Heights at 2:31 p.m., headed westbound to Shrewsbury, and returns from whence it came; the music continues until 4:32 p.m. Admission for both events is normal MetroLink fare. As an added bonus: All patrons riding the express will receive a postcard made by Sleepy Kitty.
