Wilco (The Coffee): Order By This Sunday!
Do you need the perfect holiday gift for the Wilco fan on your list? Have you already given them the Wilco scarf, Wilco insulated lunch tote, Wilco album transport case and Wilco dog sweater?
This year, given him the gift that'll keep him alert so he can listen to Wilco into the wee hours of the night. For a very limited time, the band is selling a coffee from Chicago's Intelligentsia Coffee on their website. Orders for Wilco Select must be placed by 11:59 p.m. this Sunday, December 5. Intelligentsia will roast the beans on Monday and Tuesday, and ship them to caffeinated fans on Thursday. Beans as fresh as a Nels Cline guitar solo.
The band chose organic Ethiopia Sidama Homecho Waeno to bear their name. The company describes the coffee:
The aromatics of coffee blossom and violet make way for an incredibly graceful and elegant cup. The body has a light and silky quality, like fresh whipped cream, that beautifully compliments the ever-present note of citron, juniper berry and vanilla. As it cools, the cup blossoms into notes of confectioner's sugar, rosehips, and soft raisin, resonating on a pristine finish with a touch of milk chocolate.
Translation: It'll taste the way Bull Black Nova sounds: complex, dark, with an anxiety-filled finish.
There's a decaf coffee called Wilco Doesn't Select, even though the band makes it clear they had no interest in decaf. But if you are, it's a direct trade Los Inmortales from El Salvador.
One-pound bags of whole bean Wilco Select are $21. Wilco Doesn't Select is $17 per pound. The band's store is offering a bundle deal that includes two one-pound bags of beans and two limited edition Wilco/Intelligensia coffee mugs. Prices range from $50 to $56, depending on your caffeine preference. Mugs purchased separately are $10. Spend more than $44, and you'll get a free t-shirt.
