Photos: Grace Potter & the Nocturnals at the Pageant, Friday, January 14

Last night, Grace Potter & the Nocturnals returned to the Pageant as a headlining act, after wowing the Avett Brothers crowd last fall. A to Z's reviewer had the flu and couldn't make it; please chime in with setlists and how it was in the comments. Photographer Jon Gitchoff did bring back a slideshow of photos, though. Here's a sampling below:

It was really hard to photograph her from afar because she is SO energetic, but I have a few photos here: http://www.everylittlethingblo...

I had a great time! I recognized many songs from when they opened for Avett Brothers but it was nice to see them able to expand into their own show. I wasn't a huge fan of the crowd - a lot of people around us treated it as a regular bar night and didn't pay attention to the show, so it was hard to actually listen to the music. No big deal though, we had a lot of fun!

One of the best shows I have ever seen in my life. Well worth the money. I would see Grace Potter and the Nocturnals every chance I can get!!!

I agree; it was an amazing show. They are getting better and better. The entire band was on fire. The crowd was great too. I think the band was quite impressed with the turnout, and in Grace's own words, it was the "night of their lives". If last night's show was in 2010, it would have been on my top five list, if not #1.

My highlights included the rocked out version of "Joey", the extendind jam on "Oasis", and "Big White Gate", which is my personal favorite and the song that origianlly got me hooked on GPN.

The openers, Chamberlin, were a pleasant surprise. They are also from Vermont and their self-titled album, which was produced by Scott Tournet of the Noctornals, is set to be released in March 2011. Their sound reminded me of Ryan Adams and The Cardinals, except the lead singer wasn't a dick.

Another fun fact, Grace said she wrote the song "Colors" in a Holiday Inn parking lot here in St. Louis. I believe she said it was a cold, winter day and she wrote the song after visiting the Zoo! Perhaps that was before or after their 2008 show at Blueberry Hill?

Sorry to hear the reviewer was sick. Hopefully he/she feels better soon.

Thanks for the detailed recap, J to K! You make me want to see the next Grace Potter show here -- which hopefully will be soon (hint, hint, Pageant! Get on that!). I know the balcony was opened due to demand, which is a good sign. It's so great to see bands like this swell in popularity -- especially because they're also such nice people.

You are welcome! I have a feeling they will be back. They really like St. Louis. I got the privilege of meeting Catherine Popper and Ben Yurco after the show, and you are right, both were very nice.

First.Amazing show, chemistry & energy. I was not a fan before last night's show, but now converted. Their mix of genres is intelligent and fluid. Don't miss the next show.
