Menoemena at the Luminary Center for the Arts, October 2010
On Friday, word broke that multi-instrumentalist Brent Knopf was leaving Menomena. In a brief statement, the band said, "After 10 years of fruitful collaboration, Brent Knopf has decided to part ways with Menomena to focus on Ramona Falls and other creative pursuits. We want to thank Brent for his vast contributions over the years and wish him nothing but happiness in all of his future endeavors." That's the bad news. The good news? According to that same blogpost, Menomena is returning to St. Louis on March 10 at the Gargoyle. (Paul Alcott will be joining the group on the tour.) This is mere months after the group played at the Luminary Center for the Arts. A word of warning, as usual: The Gargoyle hasn't yet announced this show, so stay tuned for official confirmation hopefully soon.

That sucks. Say what you will, but Knopf was the creator of Deeler. He was the most important member of the band, and I don't see them carrying on long without him.

One need only do a Ramona Falls vs Lackthereof comparison to see whose solo output is stronger and more focused.
