Congrats to the RFT's Music-Related Web Award Winners for 2011!
Late yesterday, the winners of the RFT's first-annual web awards went live on our website. Included in that bunch is a bunch of music-related winners. The best music blog award went to I Went To a Show -- because, according to judges, "It's great to see the local-centric content, and it's nice that even though there are five distinct points of view here, there's also a unity to the site. It's a fun read." The site was also profiled in the paper. In it, co-founder Jess Luther detailed IWTAS' impetus:
The site's founders were also driven by a desire to do something "meaningful," Luther says -- which, to them, entailed more than offering just another take on national acts.
"We found ourselves pretty impressed by the resurgence of local music," Luther explains. "People had always been putting good stuff out, but lately people had started paying more attention to it. We knew it didn't have to be a sold-out show at the Pageant for it to be worth writing about."
In other categories, the "Best Flickr Pool" went to photographer Tom Lampe, who's frequently seen at local shows and concerts taking snapshots. (Check out his Twangfest 14 collections and shots from last week's Bottle Rockets/Marshall Crenshaw show.)
