In late January, Story of the Year frontman Dan Marsala revealed some obscure trivia about the band's breakthrough album, Page Avenue, which the band played in its entirety Friday, February 4 at the Pageant. At the same time, he also delivered an update about the Fuck off and Dies, his rad, righteous, fun and funny punk-rock side-project that's been tearing up St. Louis. That band is playing tomorrow night, February 26, at Fubar, along with the Scam, Direct Hit!, the Haddonfields and the Disappeared. Doors are at 7 p.m. and tickets are $8 (with a minor surcharge if under 21).

D.X. Ferris: What's the latest with the Fuck Off and Dies?
Dan Marsala: We've been in the studio recording for the last couple of weeks. We're at our friend's basement studio in St. Louis. It's Matt Amelung's Second Story Studios in North County, really close to where I live, by the airport. It's the same place where [Story is] recording [a Nirvana cover] now.

[The Fuck off and Dies] just did five songs in five days. And we might go back and do more. We're just seeing how it goes. We're in the process of figuring out what we're doing with our side projects.

What songs did you record?
DM: We did a few of the same songs [available at the band's website, http://thefuckoffanddies.bandcamp.com], and we have a bunch of new songs. The songs are so ridiculous and goofy and funny--we write songs all the time. I pretty much write everything, but the guys in the band will give me funny song titles, and I'll make it into a song. It's simple three-chord punk songs, what I grew up listening to: '90s punk songs.

Do you have a label or release date?
Not yet. We're trying to get hold of [Story's current label] Epitaph. Me and Ryan [Phillips, Story guitarist] are key members on the Story of the Year contract, so anything else we do, Epitaph has first rights to it. We're trying to find out if they want to put out a Fuck Off and Dies record. Nothing is set in stone. We're just recording for fun.
