LouFest 2011 Lineup: The Roots, TV On the Radio, Cat Power and the Hold Steady Are Highlights

Surprise! Happy Tuesday! LouFest just announced the lineup for the 2011 edition of the festival, which takes place in Forest Park on August 27 and 28. Hip-hop hotshots The Roots, indie darlings TV On the Radio, folkie chanteuse Cat Power, neo-shoegazer Deerhunter, bar-band bros the Hold Steady, indie darlings Surfer Blood and disco-punk !!! are among the bands scheduled to perform. The full line-up is below -- but unlike last year, LouFest isn't yet revealing which band is playing on which day. Mystery! A limited number of $59 two-day passes are now on sale at LouFest.com.

One of the nicest things about this year's lineup is how it brings acts to town who haven't been here in a very long time, if at all. For instance, neither Cat Power nor TV On the Radio have been to St. Louis in the entire time I've lived here (since mid-2005). Although Bradford Cox's Atlas Sound was here in 2009, his Deerhunter project played at the Billiken Club in 2007 -- the same year that !!! was last in town, at the Duck Room.

So -- what does everyone think?

Sand fly over juicy couture bags the earth beyond the Great Wall or so, so, the crooked, slanting the engine ran to juicy couture me, retaining only the Mirage juicy couture clothing front of the fragmented, click, cracking, crystal clear juicy couture sale one place ... Midnight, once juicy couture wholesale again from this dream in the eyes open Gan-hyun, drying, heating, broken ears still echoed the voice of TV drama, click, cracking, click, cracking, carbazole ... as slow and vicious cannibal ants that with the erosion of the ancient and rotten body, carbazole ... ... until the bones cracking into a pool of crisp yellow sand.

Oh man... if only I hadn't gotten HEAT STROKE last year from the lack of shade and short supply of (85 degree) water, I would totally go!

Ok line up, I think that years line-up was better, will still go though. !!! never fail to entertain! If the powers that be at LouFest continue to rely on social media for advertising, this will be the last year of LouFest. Relying on word of mouth will result in fewer walk-ups which was the case last year. Spend some $$$$ to advertise outside of the St. Louis area.

Wasn't Deerhunter just in town at the Pageant, opening up for Porcupine Tree? I'm pretty sure I was there.

That was The Dear Hunter. Two different bands -- I know, so confusing!

Oh
Oh

They landed not one, but TWO indie darlings?!

Indeed! This is what happens when you write blogposts late at night while tired. :)

Yeah this is most impressive. Good job, Loufest!

This is in restraint of trade of the MUNY. Restraint of trade is in violation ofanti trust laws because it causes great economic harm. MUNY operating thelast week of August and through Labor Day would draw an average a night, six, sevennights, fill thousands of hotel motel rooms and create huge before show early dinnersfor area restaurants. St. Louis is now suffering greatly from the systemic restraintof trade of MUNY and Kiel Opera House as cities such as Kansas City capturemore and more of the travel business, we used to enjoy.

Thousands of hotel rooms... in Ed Golterman's MIND.

Loufest requires multiple stages and vast amounts of open space in an unrestricted area. The location they have chosen is just about perfect for what they are trying to do. An event like this is a positive thing, and only ambivalent and/or marginally insane people would write such ridiculous drivel about how a wonderful & affordable event for all people is causing great economic harm.

I'm really excited about the lineup, but no alt-country/bluegrass/folk act in a town like STL is a bit strange.

The Low Anthem fits that bill reasonably well, IMO.

Awesome, looks like a pretty good lineup to me. Some of these bands might not be the best new music out there but at least they'll put on an awesome show! I'm just stoked that St. Louis has LouFest!! Well done.

Kind of a dick move to not release who's playing on which day. I'd like to avoid Dad Steady at all costs, plz.

I am sure between Pollstar and band websites that the lineups will be revealed in plenty of time before the show.

Love it - way more diverse than last year. Last year's lineup was pretty "safe", which is to be understood fo the first year. Glad they stretched out a little this year.

I'd love to make it, but I'll be at the pizza hut, I'll be at the taco bell, I'll be at the combination pizza hut and taco bell

My eight and ten year olds already have plans to make a pizza hut/taco bell sign...

Definitely an exciting lineup, and proof that LouFest can be and is a national contender.

It did however just dawn on me that it would have been a lot better to see any of the top acts about 5 years ago or so.

Like, whoa. Hat tip to LouFest folks. Job well done!

Pleasantly surprised. While I liked last year's, this lineup is more indie and less Twangfest, which was what most people were expecting Loufest to be, I think.

My money's on Hold Steady closing night one and the Roots closing night two.

Adam Houston

it's pretty clear from their site that TVOTR and The Roots are closing, but I kinda wish Hold Steady was closing instead of The Roots. They put on an AMAZING show.

Kpumaorn

the roots live show is almost untouchable. hold steady doesnt even hold a flame to the roots IMO. but its all relavtive

First thought: Meh. Second thought: I guess there are some bands I better give another listen, to see if I'm missing anything.

Amazing. Even better than last year. Keep up the great work LouFest. You make STL proud.
