KDHX Earns $450,000 Kresge Foundation Grant For Its New Building

KDHX just got a big step closer to its future with a $450,000 grant from the Kresge Foundation. The radio station is moving into the building at 3524 Washington Avenue. In addition to consolidating the station's operations to one place, the station's new home will have a 125-seat venue and cafe.

The building, which at one time housed the Creepy Crawl, was donated anonymously last year in honor of operations manager Larry Weir, who passed away in January 2010. The four-story space requires massive renovations before the station can take up residence, and the Kresge grant takes a big chunk out of KDHX's $3.75 million capital campaign.

The grant comes from a somewhat newly revamped Arts and Culture program at the Kresge Foundation; KDHX is the first St. Louis organization to win a grant under the new program.

The new building, which is to be called the Larry J. Weir Center For Independent Media, is tentatively scheduled to be opened sometime in early 2012. Plans for the renovation have already been completed by St. Louis' The Lawrence Group.
