The entire city is buzzing about a certain local sportsball team, and we're no exception. It's our job to write about music, however. But the two intersect on "Cardinal Rules," a crimson call to arms from Missouri's native sons Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin.

The Cardinals referenced in the tune are technically the Double-A affiliate of our hometown team. The band hails from Springfield, MO and are well-documented baseball fans, often wearing Springfield Cardinals kit on stage. But being part of the family, we're sure they'd be fine with us co-opting the tune in support of the Redbirds from the river city.

The song seems to have been custom made for the occasion: "I was driving down 44, got my red on the radio / We were coming back, rally cap, made it time for one more bat...We can't lose, we got one more shot tonight." We recommend customizing the chorus by shouting, "I'm goin' downtown / St. Louis alright!" Listen below.

Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin appears at the Firebird next Friday 11/4 with Elsinore (Champaign, IL) and Dots Not Feathers (St. Louis). "Cardinal Rules" appears on the recently released album Tape Club.
