The Radiohead Presale is Tomorrow Morning [Update: March 6]

Don't be like this dance enthusiast and miss out.
Update 3/6: Presale tickets for the May and June shows in Mansfield, Newark, DC, Cincinnati, Cuyahoga Falls, Chicago, Auburn Hills, Camden, Montreal and Toronto go on sale March 8. The presale goes live on the w.a.s.t.e. site here. That's the link you should start refreshing at midnight on the 8th -- the last batch of shows went on sale shortly after 6 a.m. and sold out in under two hours. It was also 6 a.m. CST (7 a.m. EST) for most of 2008's shows, though it hasn't always been at that time. If you'd trade a night of sleep spent constantly refreshing a browser for tickets, start at midnight. If you're willing to roll the dice a bit, set the alarm for 5:30 a.m. (6:30 on the East Coast) and start refreshing it then. Again, here's where you go.

Original clusterfuck from November follows...

Update, 7:45 a.m. 11/9: The St. Louis presale now appears to be officially sold out. General sale is Saturday at 10 a.m.

Update, 7 a.m. 11/9: The time has come! Our source on Twitter logged on just after 6 a.m. (for what we're guessing is the vicinity of the 100th time in the past six hours) and managed to get tickets. As recently as fifteen minutes ago, there were still tickets left. We'll let you know when they are for sure gone.

You know by now: Radiohead has announced the first leg of its 2012 tour and St. Louis has one of the shows. It's on March 9th at the Scottrade Center, and tickets go on sale through Ticketmaster on Saturday at 10 a.m. But some spots (history tells us it's typically the better ones) are available at an unspecified time tomorrow. So, how does one secure Radiohead tickets through the W.A.S.T.E. presale?

Radiohead has done these in the past -- a small number (ten to twenty percent, usually) of tickets go on sale ahead of time. They have gone live as early as four in the morning, but lately it's been more reasonable: 6 a.m. for most of the 2008 tour presales and 10 a.m. for this past September's shows in New York.

Ticket prices for the St. Louis show are $49 and $69. That puts us on the high end (though it's all close) -- we told you yesterday about the range in Dallas ($45 to $69) and Phoenix ($34 to $54). A couple more have been added: Kansas City is $48 to $58 and Houston is $45 to $69. So you get the idea.

To get presale tickets, go to the W.A.S.T.E. ticketing site. It does not appear that you have to join the W.A.S.T.E. Central fan site ahead of time. Generally, these things have been posted on the hour, and Radiohead's web site helpfully narrows the window to "am EST."

All tickets for September's New York shows were will call to circumvent scalping; expect that to be the case here as well. The presale is also designed to reward the true fans -- namely, people willing to forgo sleep and keep the trigger finger refreshing the browser window.

Why bother with the presale when the general sale comes at a known, reasonable time on a Saturday? We already mentioned the possibility that you get better seats. In the past, W.A.S.T.E. ticket holders have sometimes had a separate entrance to the venue so you don't have as much of a wait on the day of the show. Plus, you avoid Ticketmaster's hefty fees. But the biggest reason you might try for the presale is that your chances are better of actually getting tickets. Yes, there are fewer available, but with a standard on-sale time you have to compete with everyone: Scalpers, casual fans, people buying gifts, etc. The pool is much, much larger than those willing to seek out the presale information and then keep checking the site to see if it's gone live. Of course, the presale still tends to sell out with a hell of a quickness, so you might decide to roll the dice on Saturday's general sale.

Guitarist Ed O'Brien talked to the BBC in October about the upcoming tour -- he goes into the way the setlist will be structured (drawing heavily from the two most recent albums) and other ways this will be different from 2008's In Rainbows tour.

Links to the presale and other relevant things to tide you over on the next page.

It kept coming in waves every 15 minutes, we scored 1 GA at 7:45, Got 1 at 8:00 but lost it, got 2 at 8:30 and took one all the way to credit card processing and a timeout lost it, luckily the second one went through all the way.  Just because it said there was nothing in your cart didn't mean they were sold out, kept going back, try to buy, going back, try to buy over and over till you scored.  +1 on using a T3 or better line at work instead of being at home, my cable internet was getting its butt kicked and the scores came from a work line.

scam? yikes, this thread is making me a little nervous: please tell me that the w.a.s.t.e. site is indeed authentic and that i did in fact buy real tix to see Radiohead in St Louis?  This is my 12 y.o.'s first big show and he would be pretty bummed because this is the only thing he asked for for christmas.  plus i'd be out some serious cabbage.

To add insult to injury, there were a few tickets available at 8AM and a second wave at 8:15 that promptly sold out. I saw the "tickets available" screen twice only to get "There are no tickets available" after submitting each time.

Wow RFT's. You posted the wrong link. So many of us have been refreshing for hours and now have lost out!

i've gotten RH tix through ticketmaster, the trick is to get on the phone.  try calling an outlet like the auditorium theatre in chicago, or san antonio texas, some place with a # WITH AN OPERATOR, don't do the automated thing.  call approx 5 min before on sale time, once you get to that operator, if it's before 10 (or whatever the on sale time is) KEEP THEM ON THE PHONE, ask stupid questions, do NOT let them hang up on you, technically they can't since it's customer service....ask random stuff....who's playing in ____ city tonight....whatever KEEP THEM ON THE LINE then at 10 (or whenever tix are on sale) you blitz them, OK I NEED TICKETS FOR RADIOHEAD IN ST LOUIS or whatever.....if they are cool tell them one min prior to GET READY and that you want radiohead tickets for _____City.....make sure they are able to allow you to buy tickets for a city/state you didn't call.  while you're doing this ALSO BE ON THE INTERNET, get on early refresh at 9:59 and some change, if you refresh too many times, you're kicked out.  another time saving step is create a ticketmaster user/password PRIOR to buying tickets.  this way you're already logged in and can just swiftly move through the next steps-payment, address, etc....If you have an office/place of employment, a big office, with FAST (T1 or higher) internet, go there and purchase the tickets.....every little bit helps.  with this public on sale, you're fighting everyone, scalpers etc.  the real crappy part is houston and austin isn't even ticketmaster - Radiohead will for sure CRASH the TEXAS BOX OFFICE website.GOOD LUCK.

So, if we got screwed because we used the wrong link does that mean we're stuck with shitty seats now? Anyone dealt with the ticketmaster radiohead mob before?

The new presale site didn't exist yesterday -- we updated the links when the new site went live. Sorry if there was any confusion.

There were also $69 reserved seats in the lower bowl...They were for rows A-W in the two sections closest to the stage.

There'll still be both floor and seated tickets on the 12th but the pre-sale tickets supposedly tend to have better seats if you're not in the pit. I think it's been estimated that the quantity of presale tickets are about 10% of what's available during the main sale. Another upside of the getting in on the presale tickets is that TicketBastard charges higher handling fees. I also missed out. :(

the correct link was LIVE yesterday.  www.radiohead.com/tourdates is what you had to refresh over and over like i did all night long, just like back in 08.  a little after 6AM (CST) as i'm between sleep and awake i press refresh on one of my 2 computers on a table i moved to the bedroom next to me (wife not happy) and at that page, the TOUR PAGE, it changes to ON SALE NOW from On Sale Nov 9 or whatever it was....so yes you did send the wrong link to everyone.  I did not follow this pages directions and was able to get floor seats for houston and austin.  AWESOME.  but i am upset at the venue locations.....these huge arenas aren't their normal places....guess they wanted to make more cash.

Yes, I was able to buy tickets at 7:45 and 8:30 am Central Standard Time

Thanks so much, Marcus. Yes, it even feels legit now -- just got additional seating info and looks quite good (for a stadium show, that is).  Kid is stoked, although already hoping for a Bends/OK Computer set.  I am Kid A/In Rainbows myself.  Thinking, though, it will be all King of Limbs/Atoms for Peace... which is fine by me. I am pretty sure T.Y. takes requests telepathically.  :)

Where did you see that floor seats would still be available on the 12th?

Marcus Halberstram
Marcus Halberstram

for some reason it changed, they were listing the cities, dates etc saying these are sold out: then listing them....but now as you can see it's back to letting you think there are tix...i believe austin sold out first w/in 15 minutes all were gone, then other cities were falling off the list.  i was refreshing the page you're looking at and cities were being pulled off one by one.....i say keep trying never know if they will release more, people who bought more than 4 tix might get orders cancelled etc.....

yeah the recent interview w/ ed i read, he was saying the last tour was In Rainbows + Other greatest hits.  I love the old stuff too but have seen them enough to appreciate whatever they play.  We know that we will hear all 8 TKOL songs + the 3 unreleased (the daily mail, staircase and supercollider).  so that leaves approx 10-14(?) other songs.  They will put on an amazing show as usual.  I was able to see them in NYC at All Points West on Night 2 - Kid A, Exit Music, Airbag and the august before that I met Thom in San Antonio while walking down the street the night before the woodlands show (pit tix - stayed up all night again) and then at the woodlands my wife and I heard, Climbing up the Walls, you and Whose Army and Street Spirit along with many many many more.  I'm just glad i get hear them in person.  sorry for the life story.  can't wait to take my unborn kids some day, hopefully they'll still be touring.
