• February 1995, our Astoria apartment.  Outside, everything frozen, frost white.  Earlier, we left the party stoned, drunk, trudging through knee-high snow down the center of Central Park West, depopulated, barren, as if we were crossing through an empty field in Wisconsin under a moonlit sky.  At home, empty bottles everywhere.  On the stereo, "Miss Williams' Guitar" and "Real Light" on a loop, full volume, jumped pounding on the living room floor, heads back, screaming the lyrics with every ounce of breath as if our lives depended on it.

• Their performance on Austin City Limits. It was late, a school night, but i was hooked. Who are these guys? that's my Jayhawks memory.
