Riddle of Steel Will Play a Reunion Show in February
After teasing fans about it for five months on the band's facebook page, power trio Riddle of Steel finally confirmed that it will be playing a reunion show at the Firebird on February 18. The show, which is being held in honor of bassist Jimmy Vavak's 40th birthday, will be the group's first performance since its only other reunion performance in 2009 and will also feature False Moves.
Over the course of three albums and one EP, Riddle of Steel evolved from a frenetic post-punk band that traded in extended chords and jerky rhythms into a more straightforward stoner rock outfit. What remained consistent during Riddle's lifespan was its ability to deliver satisfying, fist-pumping hard rock. The band broke up in 2008 and singer/guitarist Andrew Elstner formed the classic-rock influenced Tilts with other veteran St. Louis musicians before he moved to Atlanta to join Torche. Drummer Rob Smith has stayed busy with Oklahoma City's Traindodge and San Francisco's Roma 79 while Vavak has mostly stayed out of bands to focus on heading the bar staff at the Firebird. Now that they is back together for one more show however, Riddle of Steel is taking requests, so make sure to tell them what you want to hear to get the most of your reunion.
