Post-punk popster The Hibernauts will playing its final show as a regularly operating unit at Off Broadway (3509 Lemp Avenue, 314-773-3363) tomorrow night. The group released two albums, 2007's Periodic Fables and 2009's Velvet Suit and will be playing the former release in its entirety for the show. "It will be the last show for a long time," says Hibernaut Jack Stevens. "We are playing a lot of our early material and it's our original lineup."

The bill also gets some star power in the form of opener Kishi Bashi, who plays violin for Of Montreal and has worked with everyone from Regina Spektor to Katy Perry.

The Hibernauts' demise is sad but not entirely unexpected. Its name was appropriate -- the group often hibernated for long periods before playing shows and sometimes emerged with different lineups, thus making it hard to sustain momentum. Still, the scene is for the worse without the band. The Hibernauts showed growth from their new-wave roots on Velvet Suit and continually improved as a live act over the years.

Stevens has left the possibility of an even slower concert schedule open for the future. "Ideally, we'll average .75 shows per year until one of us dies, if I can talk everyone into it."
