Last year's RFT Music Showcase. Who will we be shouting along with this year?
Update, 2/14: This is your final chance to get yourself on the nominating committee. If you feel your perspective will help us find the hundred best bands and artists in St. Louis, email me at kiernan DOT maletsky AT riverfrontimes.com with the subject line "2012 RFT Music Awards Nominating Committee" and brief introduction.

Original post follows...

The RFT Music Showcase is back: June 2nd on Washington Avenue. There will be dancing, drinking, sweating (hopefully not as much as last year -- holy hell it was hot) and, of course, the best single gathering of St. Louis bands and artists anywhere. The lineup is selected from the finalists for the RFT Music Awards, and with your help it will be the definitive list of this city's best.

In the comments below, tell us which artists from the St. Louis region you think should be nominated this year. Please note that the official ballot will be constructed by a committee of experts and is not a popularity contest. So don't bother getting all your friends and fans to blitz this post -- that will only serve to annoy us. If, however, your suggestions are especially thoughtful or demonstrate a strong perspective on some genre or scene, we'll make you an official part of the nominating committee. Please include your email address in the submission form or the comment itself if you'd like to be considered.

For those looking for a little grease to get the gears turning, last year's winners and categories are listed on the next page. Note that we won't be using this exact list of categories for this year's Awards. You can also read about all of last year's nominees:

I second the nomination of the Lulus for Best Folk/Americana.

These ladies bring new life to old tunes and new feminism to old feminism.

there are so many great bands in st. louis. the super talented bands that i feel are hands down right more than worthy of the rft's attention are magic city, warm jets usa, dibiase, ashes and iron, the disappeared, everything went black, black for a second, so many dynamos, bruiser queen, your dukes, the humanoids, the haddonfields, rats and people motion picture orchestra, sleepy kitty, syna so pro, accelerondo, dots not feathers, tilts, the dive poets, the blind eyes, fister, miss jubilee, hum drum ramblers, pokey lafarge, [[thorlock]], tone rodent, 33 on the needle, kentucky knife fight, the R6 implant, fragile porcelain mice, hope and therapy, glass waves, so much closer, jon hardy and the public, there's a killer among us, sine nomine, uuuuhhhh... and fred friction. a ton of good stuff. hardly scratching the surface, i know. can't wait to read about the deserving and hard working nominees.

It's high time that you have a Bluegrass category. St. Louis has grown into a town that has a great appreciation for bluegrass (have you been to the Bluegrass Ball at the Old Rock House??). I wouldn't be surprised if STL starts having some kind of bluegrass festival in a few years. In that case, I would nominate Elemental Shakedown. I have been watching them for 3 years now and they get better every time. They have a new sense of music appreciation and their harmonizing is the best yet. Banjo, Fiddle, Mandolin, Guitar and Upright Bass. It's a jammy bluegrass good time.

I can't say too much here, because there is so much talent in our city it is impossible to pick favorites (and, not my job!)  but three bands do come to my mind for best new band.  The Airliners, Spot Ons, and Jedi Nighties have gone from playing open mics to real live full lengthen awesome shows at great venues in less than a year- and that's got to mean something.
