John Doe, playing this year's Twangfest -- June 9 @ Blueberry Hill
Here again is every newly announced show for the week! We have offerings from the big-arena rock show variety all the way down to the hole-in-the-wall club type; music fans of all shape and size are bound to see something worth getting excited about. 311 will be bringing Slightly Stoopid and the Aggrolites with them to the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater for the seventh annual Unity Tour on July 10th; tickets go on sale on April 7 at 10 a.m. and cost only $10.57 during the first week of sales. Portland's Pierced Arrows, containing members Fred and Toody Cole of the seminal punk band Dead Moon will play The Gramophone on April 24; fans of their previous band will not be disappointed. The three piece line-up is rounded out by veteran punk drummer Kelly Halliburton, formerly of Severed Head of State and Defiance. The word "seminal" remains operative. In further punk news, Cleveland's supreme blackened punk / metal outfit Midnight will play El Lenador on April 28th with Ares Kingdom, The Gates of Slumber, Terra Caput Mundi and Rites of Impiety. Midnight is an ex-Gordon Solie Motherfuckers band, meaning it can be assumed that at least one of its members is accustomed to and totally comfortable with full-scale riots and wildly insane, possibly criminal behavior during performances. That said, please don't burn El Lenador to the ground; I like it there. Ever-talented songstresses Madeleine Peyroux and Santigold each have upcoming shows in town as well; the former is May 20 at the Sheldon and the latter is June 12 at the Pageant. Pinback, Yelawolf and this year's Twangfest line-up (which includes Pokey Lafarge of course, and John Doe of X!) are all also featured below, and the week's complete list of newly announced shows follows on page 2.

I don't think the individual show details are in the least confusing and hard to read, and who doesn't love battling through a fucking humongous opening paragraph?

While I appreciate the effort that goes into the new format of "This Week's New Show Announcements", I really miss the old format and more importantly I miss the scaled back nature of it.

DJ nights? Cover bands? Just give me the national touring announcements like the Chicago Reader does with their "Early Warnings" emails.
