Two Music Fans Attend Creed Concert (Sober) to Raise Money For MS

It seemed like a good idea at the time. A couple months ago, close friends and former SLUH grads Tony Cerame and John Simon noticed that the gut-rocking, god-loving, glory-touring guys in Creed are coming to The Pageant this Saturday. At this point, they'd like to clarify one item: "We cannot, in any way be confused with Creed fans," insists Simon, though he admits he occasionally catches himself singing "Higher" in the shower. "Their songs are just so bombastic and Jesus-y that I can't help myself." Instead, the guys have become surprise (and sarcastic) philanthropists.

When Cerame's reaction to the tour announcement was, "You couldn't pay me enough to go to that," he second-guessed himself, brought in Simon and hatched a plan for charity. To raise money for the Gateway Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, the two music fans will attend Creed in concert -- completely sober.

They will even buy a T-shirt. When Cerame and Simon launched their plans on a crowdrise profile last Monday, response boomed. Within 24 hours, they surpassed their initial goal of $1,000 in donations, and with four days left until the concert, the metal and indie-rock fans are now hovering around $2,100. Different stages of pledges come with various requirements from the duo, meaning by now they not only have to attend the concert but must also buy a T-shirt and wear it the entire time. They will also tape themselves performing a Creed song -- and they're accepting ideas for the $3,000 mark. (RFT Music suggested pre-ordering Scott Stapp's autobiography, Sinner's Creed.)

At first, the donations came from friends, but supporters with graphic design and video skills have pushed their project as far as Australia through social media. Even Neko Case has Retweeted their call to action from her official account, though, "She probably had no idea what she was Retweeting," Simon jokes.

This is a fantastic way to get the word out for a great cause. These guys are just targeting the interest of their friends as well as the taste of a vast group of music listeners. It's called marketing and it works. Plus it's really funny. And I say to all the Creed fans you should go to their Crowdrise site and put in your two cents to the conversation and then put in your twenty dollars to help find a cure to a horrible disease. Win win. They just better not dis on The Crash Test Dummies.

Never ever try to do something good by trashing something else.  All it does it taint the original goal.  If you used all the time and energy you put into this lame ass stunt to really getting word out on MS you might of accomplished lots of donations.  We live in an age of people who are sick to death of trashing and bashing. Adults have passed this ugly side of their behavior to kids who then end up being bullies.  Look what is going on with anti bully campaigns. If adults do things like these idiots are doing no wonder kids are acting the same dumb way.

Creed today are grown men with kids now. Each today much greater musicians which shows at a live Creed concert.  They know how to rock that stage. The Creed bashers are no longer a welcome or accepted entity. There is now a whole new generation of Creed fans that are just over all these older people spreading hate as if they were in a time warp from the 90's. It's 2012 people and Creed is one hell of a band. I personally look forward to what is ahead for them and the new album they are currently writing.

This whole thing was a stunt for some pathetic idiots who wanted some attn. And used something old and played out to get it. Yawn! Shame on them for using MS in this all.

Wait. Creed has kids? That changes my whole perspective of them.

To be extremely frank, you clearly have absolutely NO sense of humor and are hiding this fact behind all of his "high and mighty" talk. No one is trying to take away your right to like creed just the same as they don't take your rights away to not like them. Honestly if someone were doing this for a band that you DIDN'T like then I guarantee you'd be all over it. Also, most rationally thinking people would not go into this over-dramatic "victim" routine because of it and would just shrug it off and move on. Nice try.

And also, "Shame on them for using MS?" God forbid someone wants to raise money for research for a crippling disease that THEY HAVE. The untarnished name of Creed is clearly the bigger issue in this situation.

Hopefully creed hands all profits over to the ms society as well.
